Import AI 461: “Alignment is not on track”; FrontierCode; and synthetic research interns
Sequent, a new nonprofit research organization, aims to create alignment techniques for superintelligent AI systems. The organization plans to raise $100–150M initially and has a goal of getting 40-80 fulltime employees within a couple of years. Sequent's approach is different from that of major AI labs, focusing on principled reasons for confidence in alignment. Researchers have also built ChinaHeritaQA, a multimodal benchmark dataset for evaluating the cultural reasoning abilities of vision-language models (VLMs) on UNESCO World Heritage sites in China. The dataset consists of 2,279 images paired with 14,133 multiple-choice QA pairs in Chinese and English.
