Tesla sustains its EV sales momentum despite US troubles
Tesla sold over 480,000 EVs in the third quarter, beating Wall Street estimates and its own most optimistic views. This marks the second strong quarter in a row for the company, after a rough start to the year. The sales figure topped 486,532, with 464,391 vehicles built and delivered in the quarter.
The company's sales are on the rise in Europe, where EVs are more widely adopted and supported by tighter emissions regulations. Tesla is expanding capacity at its factory in Germany to meet that demand, and has also seen continued strong sales out of its factory in China despite competition in the region.
Tesla's rebound in overall momentum comes despite its troubles in the U.S. market, where sales are down nearly 20% year-over-year. The company has looked to other markets to make up for lost U.S. sales, and is also focused on its other efforts, including the Cybercab and the production version of its electric big rig, the Tesla Semi.
